JANEWAY
Captain Smeerworld, Garak, and I have just arrived on the Doyle and make our way to the bridge. Leaving the two a chance to give the bridge a look over, I step away from them to have a private conversation with Doyle.
"Not a bad way to test your new ship self”, I tell her, “than to get straight into battle huh Doyle. I hope everything is to satisfaction"
"I'd quite agree Ma'am”, she responds, ”and everything is perfect, I hope you'll enjoy the trip back, I'm looking forward to flexing my slipstream muscle as it were, of course you have command being the senior officer on board."
"Oh nonsense, I'm just a passenger, carry on as you were." I hand Doyle a PADD with the per-arranged co-ordinates where Smeerworld & Garak will depart us. The planet is located on the border between the Alpha and Beta quadrants in the Milky Way.
“I'm sure that we will have no trouble being able to get them there well in advance of the time they need to arrive.”
DOYLE
I notice on the PADD is also a concern over Garak, and a suggestion of a trick, to test his snooping abilities. Though it notes his snooping does come in useful especially given their next circumstances.
I smile at her, looking over her shoulder I catch Garak approaching and lingering around one of the bridge command consoles, I smirk at Janeway
"No need to worry there, I sure he's quite the professional”, I tell the Admiral, “Though he could be a little more discreet, he cant fool me."
Then I shout over "Something I can do for your Mr Garak?" and I glare at him.
I turn back to CnC Janeway "It will be a little while before we set off, just making final preparations and checks, and waiting for my new officers to report to the bridge, they're getting familiar with the rest of me and settling into their quarters, shouldn't be more than an hour or two"
JANEWAY
"Fine by me when ever you're ready, though this...." I say pointing at the PADD "... is somewhat urgent."
After a small pause to look around her, at just how much she looks like her sister I say "Well I'll let you carry on, I'll find my quarters, call me if you need me"
Smeerworld and Garak both stand to attention when I walk by I glance at them and smile, not slowing my pace and say "As you were gentlemen, you're off duty until we arrive"
SMEERWORLD
After Janeway leaves, I put my attention back to the bridge and its impressive technologies. Just when I think that there is nothing else that this expanded universe my life has entered could blow my mind again, I encounter more unimagined wonders. I find that what this ship can do especially amazing, because its slipstream drive is connected to the research on cosmic strings that I was studying back on Earth before I knew anything about the Stargate program or the USF. Somehow this ship can shrink its mass to virtually zero and enter into these strings to travel great distances in seconds.
I know that Garak has traveled on the Andromeda already, but he seems almost as absorbed in studying this vessel as much as I am. He moves between a few of the control panels studying there readouts with intense interest. When Doyle had asked him if he need any help with his observations, he barely acknowledged her.
ALICE OCAMPO
Since I have come on board, which was right smack in the middle of the battle, I have been to medical and walked the entire ship. MY GOD this ship was amazing. I've had the feeling that it was more than just a ship, that somehow it was.. alive. But I was not about to say this to anyone, last thing I need is to be told I'm was crazy. Come on, all of this IS crazy, fighting for all intense and purposes Vampires who were hell bent on using us all as a food source. To hell with that, I'm was no one's dinner.
I return to check on my team, or ex team, depending on how you look at it. I might now be assigned to this new ship along with Dr Grey, who has been spending all her time in the medical lab. Whatever she is doing in there, has got to be important, otherwise why would she not be out here, taking this ship apart just to know how it works. I have seen some others around here also, but have not spoken to them. Pretty much avoiding having to talk to them, not because I'm unkind or unfriendly, I just hate meeting new people and I have this way of rubbing people up the wrong way if they don't know me. I found my quarters pretty easy and was now once more exploring this ship. Little bots were moving around my feet, beeping and going about their work. They are rather cute to be honest.
As with all of my exploring here, I found myself on the bridge of this Ship and this.. this has me speechless. Right in front of me is a huge view screen and I was looking in to the vastness of space. Yea you might think I was use to it by now, but nothing ever prepares you for walking in to a room and it is just there, right in front of you. I see the others are here and just nod to them.

DOYLE
I see Alice walk onto the bridge, after watching her for a moment allowing her view to soak in I comment "Awe inspiring isn't it, I still cant get used to it sometimes, and its me"
I turn around and walk up to her holding out my hand to shake hers "Hi I'm Doyle, I hope you're settled in well" I hand her a PADD with her official transfer on she is now 2nd officer and head of security. I point to a bridge station "This is your station".
Of course the station is the main point of her duties as chief of security, but she would have an office, and other sections of the ship for them too.
Just then Amanda Grey walks in "Ah Amanda, like your new command."
Alice looks a little puzzled, but then smiles and I say "I requested you both. Well I couldn't break you up now, could I? Amanda is going to be my first officer and chief medical officer, oh and to answer the puzzling expression you've had all day, yes I'm alive, this ship is me, like Andromeda & Elizabeth, I'm their sister" I smile at them both.
The chief helm officer walks in, he's making diagnostics and checks on the helm controls after our battle. I introduce the new crew to him and vice versa.
"Ah Kevin”, I say to him, “Meet the new first officer & our chief medical officer Flt Adm Amanda Grey, & 2nd officer chief of security Admiral Alice Ocampo. Alice, Amanda, this is our chief helm officer Vice Adm Kevin Peters, he also doubles as engineer at the moment but once we return to HQ, I should have more crew on board"
SMEERWORLD
After spending a little more time on the bridge and asking Doyle a few questions about the slipstream drive, I decide to seek out my quarters for the journey. Garak had told me that he wanted to stay behind and observe the jump into slipstream. I was too interested in getting a good look at the additional mission information waiting for me there. I certainly can get a good look as we enter slipstream from the room's window when the time comes.
Once I opened the mission briefing file, I was disappointed. The criminal drug trade - and here I thought that my unfortunate past was left far behind. At least the mystery of why I am considered 'uniquely qualified' for this mission makes sense. They must think that when we infiltrate the human group of criminals going to this meeting that I will fit right in.
Perhaps I will.
I find it hard to believe that people would want to take this Wraith enzyme, but if it has a narcotic effect and produces exceptional boosts in physical power & focus, I guess it would be attractive.
My brief encounter with a Wraith, when I was tossed across the Gate-room by him, does not make me look forward to what's ahead much.
DOYLE
"Helm as soon as you have finished those diagnostics, we'll set out, steady as she goes"
Through the ship-wide com "All crew report to duty stations and stand by for departure."
In engineering I'm talking to my Security officer via my holo matrix, and putting a little plan together to see just how snoopy Garak is, at the suggestion of our CnC. Sensors note him on approach to engineering undoubtedly to snoop. My Security officer has sealed off one of our work areas and placed hazard signs on the doors, in preparation for this, and a forcefield around it.
As Garak enters I say "So Alice make sure no one gets in there, those Nova bombs are quite fragile in their current state." that is when my self on the bridge makes the ship wide announcement to get all crew to duty stations.
GARAK
I never dreamed that the Doyle would have an actual nova bomb aboard. I only expected to find some data files at best. Now maybe a chance to scan a real bomb!
DOYLE
"OK lets get underway, bring us about hard 180, take us clear of Atlantis then engage slipstream drive"
Ship wide com "All hands, we're now departing this system, secure all systems and prepare for jump to slipstream"
My sensors note Mr Garak pacing up and down a corridor adjacent to the machine shop we made out Nova bombs were being created. Of course ships do often make their own weapons and store them, this just isn't one of those locations.
I turn to my first officer "Amanda you have the bridge, I'm going for a walk. Alice keep an eye on those sensors"
A few moments later as I walk down a ramp I see Garak looking at a systems panel, he seems to be studying it, but not touching and a few steps away from the bulkhead.
I walk to him casually as if continuing on my stroll, as I pass "Something I can help you with Mr Garak, you seem a little lost, I was just going for a stroll around you're welcome to join me?"
GARAK
“That would be most enjoyable”' I tell her.
I certainly can't turn down a small tour of this grand ship by Doyle herself.
Of course I have already learned a lot about this type of vessel by my time aboard the Andromeda, but like people each of these AIs have there own unique personality created for them.
This seems like a good chance to learn more about Doyle herself.

10:46
Steven T Meer
DOYLE
We begin to walk further down the corridor, away from the interesting trap we lured him toward.
"Nervous about the mission", I ask him. I figured that I'd try engaging him in a little small talk to see where it leads.
"Only a fool would not”, he replies quickly. “This coming mission in particular is very hard to determine the risks for. Way too many unknowns."
"Not the very least, the fact that Captain Smeerworld's brother is also involved.” Just as I had hoped, he is surprised that I know this. “You have not told him yet, have you?"
“I think it best for the Captain to discover this on his own. If and when the moment arrives.”
Not long into our slipstream flight, traveling with our shields lowered, not expecting anything to happen, the ship shakes violently and we're knocked out of slipstream and sent into an uncontrolled spin. I hear my AI announcing through the ship-wide that there is a coolant leak in the engine room.
I help Garak who was thrown to a bulk head asking if he is injured. then begin to run to engineering calling on the com "Bridge report, what happened, try to get the ship stable and get a fix on our position, I'm heading for engineering with Mr Garak"
I look at him, "come one I may need your help."
I hold out my hand and pull him up fast as I begin to run.
GARAK
Once I begin to regain myself, I see Doyle reaching down to me and asking for help.
I follow her down towards where I believe the main engineering area is located.
I don't have any practical experience with this technology, except for the Federation sister systems and upgrades.
Being such a powerful and well designed ship in its own right, much of the Doyle Ascendant's major systems remain unchanged with the options to use other technology held in reserve.
Thinking of finding opportunity from every situation, I am already thinking of trying to sneak away to Examine a Nova Bomb, once this situation stabilizes.
DOYLE
As we reach engineering I comment "This is what happens when you leave space dock with only a skeleton crew"
I run right over to the leaking plasma conduit, instructing Garak not to venture near it.
"Go to the control panel and re-route the flow, until I can seal this off, keep an eye on the pressure gradient, do it too quickly and we could rupture more"
I grab an engineering kit and begin work on sealing the breached conduit, as Garak looks amazed that I',m right in front of it with no effect.
GARAK
It is amazing what Andromeda and Doyle are capable of, this entire ship and its slipstream drive. This merging of realities has truly produced a universe full of wonders that exceed anything I could have imagined.
I head over to the panel that can control the ship's plasma flow and begin trying to re-route it away from the breached conduct. My Commonwealth linguistic skills are lacking, but being USF compatible it is easily converted to standard text. After about a minute, the leak subsides when I find a working re-route for the flow.
Two of the ships presently small crew enter the room to assist in the repairs. By the way things are looking by crew response, I defiantly see a good chance to get into the Nova bomb lab.
Of course USF has the design details for the bombs through the mutual technologies pact among the fleets, but it is kept behind levels of security clearance far above mine. Knowledge is power and the workings of these bombs is something that I wish to have available for my personal use if need be.
I don't believe that I will find a better chance to gain this knowledge then now. Hopefully as more help arrives, I will have a chance to slip away.
DOYLE
"Good work Garak" I yell as the leak stops and voices can again be heard. I notice several crew come in to assist. I look over to them and motion my head to say continue where Garak left off, enabling me to use this opportunity.
"Seems what ever happened did more damage than we first thought I'm blind on my port side, internal & external sensors on port side are dead. Garak would you mind taking a look around make sure there isn't more damage" I hand him a tricorder and a tool kit. One of the engineering staff wasn't sure what I was doing so offered to help, thinking quickly I say "Yes you take the upper decks, Garak can handle the lower, the sooner we figure this out the better so we can get under way again"
GARAK
'The lower decks', well that will work out just fine with me. The secret Nova lab will fall within my search area. In a way, all that has just happened is working out perfect for me.
I don't like it.
Things that appear to fall into place so easily almost never come cheap in the end.
Before I set off, I'd rather get a firmer idea on what is truly going on.
"Do you consider this the result of this newly built ship's breaking in", I ask Doyle. "Or do you feel that there is a case to view this with suspicion?"

10:46
Steven T Meer
DOYLE
"Not that I like to admit it, but at this stage it could be a little of both, while I did leave space dock early to join the previous battle, I think the cause of this is something much bigger, we'll find out as soon as my sensors are back on-line"
GARAK
I've done enough sabotage in my day to see it for what it is. The question on my mind now is who and why? Could there be someone on board who does not wish us to complete the mission? If that was the case though, I'm sure that the result would have been the complete destruction of this ship. This would seem to be a delaying tactic. Who would want that?
"If this is sabotage, I guess that it be best that we start that 'look around' without delay", I tell Doyle and head out to the port-side lower decks.
As I head down the corridors to begin my search, my mind continues to consider the possibilities. The one that jumps out at me is USF's own version of the Obsidian Order; Section 31. I know that they are aware of what I am ultimately seeking and its significance.
I saw their fingerprint when discovering that when Captain Smeerworld was being considered for recruitment by the SG program, both his personal history and medical record results were modified to allow his acceptance. Without this action, he most likely would never have been approved.
They must want to track our actions as we infiltrate the group going to meet the Wraith.
Since the Doyle Ascendant has been moving quickly, with its slipstream drive, to deliver Smeerworld and I to our waiting Cardassian ship, they must be needing more time to put their forces in place.
Perhaps this is not Doyle and Janeway trying to set me up with an opportunity to examine the Nova lab. It is best then that I try to get this over with quickly. I move down to the lowest deck to give the illusion of a search, but quickly move up to the door to the lab.
ALICE OCAMPO
It had taken most of my shift to get used to the workings of Doyle, her systems are ..... yes she is aware and alive. But it is almost as if there is something else about her. I had nodded to Doyle when I gotten my orders to keep a very close watch over the room where the Nova Bombs are being kept. So I had assigned two of my best officers there, but for them to keep out of sight and report in if Garak decides to poke his nose where it does not belong.
The explosion had taken us all by surprise. Once the area around the damage seemed contained, I hand my station over to one of my people. I had gotten a ghost of a reading that someone was in that area seconds before the whole thing went up. Now with sensors down, I have not choice but to take a walk down there and see just what is going on. I know Garak and Doyle were in the area a the time, and reports were that they were both fine. If Garak were to decide to start sneaking around, now would be that time for him to do so, with sensors down, and everyone running around trying to get repairs down. So with that I Arm myself up and move towards the engineering section where the bombs are being kept

****The ship is now on the outer edge of the Milky Way and the story will continue there, for continuity this has also been copied there****

* After the epic battle and the promise of some down time, Beka couldn't wait to get off the ship so she did something she normally doesn't do because she hated it. But if it meant keeping her sanity then planet side she was going, heading towards the maru Beka passed Tyr standing in the hallway.*

"Beka" Why Tyr, you're still here? Shocking. "stands in front of him waiting"

"Tyr" You wouldn't understand

"Beka" That the best you can do? Maybe I don't want to know! "walks away and goes to her ship" This is Beka Valentine requesting departure to go planet side.

My holographic self flashes infront of Beka. "Not joining us to the club at the starbase?"

I look at her but can tell something is bothering her and she wishes to be alone. It must be something big though as planets arent really Beka's thing, she's a space dweller who would rather have deck plating then soil.

"Permission granted" I smile at her and my holo image vanishes.

As Beka boards her ship I appear again on her screen at her pilot seat.

"The crew are anxious to get to the starbase, and I can tell you dont really want the company, so you want to meet us there when you're ready or should we swing back this way later before going back to Milky Way?"

On the bridge I ask Trance to keep an eye on Beka, she isnt behaving in her usual way.

Trance is perfect for this because she can go planet side without taking a ship so Beka doesnt detect it, plus if she is discovered Beka loves Trance and wont be too mad.

Something tells me Beka doesn't really want to be alone anyway, but is keeping her tough exterior up, she might be happy that Trance joined her.

As Trance leaves I establish helm control and take us to slipstream and go to Flt Adm Cains starbase so the rest of the crew can have a little r 'n' r before we too head back to Starfleet HQ.

Now that the battle is over, this ship, Voyager 1 & Andromeda are heading to the starbase before going back to HQ.

I watch on sensors as the Maru launches from Andromeda and goes toward the planet surface here and raise an eyebrow.

"That's not like Beka, I wonder what she's doing"

I then remember a very nervous cadet being kept occupied by Neelix in the cargo bay.

I turn to Chakotay "The bridge is yours, I'm heading down to the cargo bay to see how our newest officer is doing"

*Chakotay* "Yes Ma'am"

I go to the turbo lift "Cargo bay 2"

The computer beeps and moments later I exit near the cargo bay.

As I enter I see Naomi & Neelix still playing games.

*Neelix* "Awww you wind again..." he smiles and laughs "...so what does that make the score 14 - 12 to you?"

He turns and sees me as the doors close behind me "Loosing again Mr Neelix?" I ask

"She's so smart I just can't keep up with her, its amazing" he replies

"Oh I'd best be careful, if she's that smart I might be out of a job"

Neelix and I laugh and then I say "would you like to help out on the bridge Miss Wildman, we're on our way to Starbase, you can help with the docking procedure if you like once we arrive?"

Naomi accepts the offer to assist on the bridge. "I would enjoy that very much Admiral. Thank you." Naomi composes herself but is cheering inside. She was very excited to be invited on the bridge to help. She goes to the bridge and assists in all things that she's asked of.

After we dock, the crew head for the much talked about club on board this station.

They sure could use the distraction after the past few days they've had.

I will join them later but I first head to Deputy Cains office in the command center of the starbase.

As I enter "Helena good to see you, how are you, I hope all is well"

I tell her that if she wishes, that when we return to HQ I could relay any data she may have that could be relevant.

Of course there is no need as it would only take a simple data burst, but like Helena, more often than not, keeping busy is my kind of relaxing.

If I didnt know she was human I would swear she was a kick ass Warship just like me, she has that firey spirit.

" After doing a quick flight around the planet beka lands the maru on the south side of city.

Alright, Valentine. let's see what this place is all about.

" Leaves the maru and feeling a bit hungry decides to head to the mess hall for a late lunch. With every hallway she walks down beka ends up getting lost and more annoyed." Maybe I should've gone with the guys to HQ. "sighs"

While some of the crew are aboard the Starbase, checking out the infamous club there.

I my self have decided to catch up on a little art work, it helps me unwind.

I dont wish to be anti social, I enjoy mingling with my crew, but for the moment not in the mood for a night club, after the past several days I'm enjoying the peace, quiet and solitude.

Completely focused on my painting, and not expecting anyone, I'm startled by the door chime.

My brush goes right across the canvass. "Oh Damn......"

I put my brush down and wipe my hands clean on a towel "... Come in!"

I shout.

I should have guessed, as the door opens it is my chief of security Selek.

"Not in the mood for clubbing either huh" I smile and laugh as his expression remains emotionless and not at all amused at my comment, but perhaps somewhere inside is used to my joking with him by now, we go way back and I know he appreciates humor even if he does nto always understand.

"Please come in, take a seat......" I look at my painting ".... I'd be ashamed to show this to the Maestro"

*I politely bow* It is not something of interest to me, a club of that nature. On Vulcan to rest is to relax and not go racing to various clubs for entertainment of a noneducational value.
*A thoughtful expression crosses my face* Would humans regard such a place as educational though? If so what would they learn from it?
*I look at my commanding officer and interested await her reply to my questions*

In a thoughtful pose, tapping the handle of the paintbrush against my teeth I answer.

"Well primarily clubs are used as a method of relaxation for many species, but now that you ask there is some educational value to it. It enables people to bond and become familiar in a role that isnt stifled by rank or duty, but it also allows us to observe how other cultures behave in different environments. For example, you may think a Romulan officer is only concerned with duty and honor, but in a setting such as the club, you get to know a completely different, more personal side to that person.

I've often seen several Vulcan's at these kind of places, I'm unsure if I could say they were enjoying it, or simply there because it is somewhere to be, I know Vulcans appreciate solitude also, but I do believe they often go to observe the many sides to individuals they would otherwise not see....."

I laugh then add "... particularly humans."

***Posted for Selek***

* I make no comment on your painting as I am no artist and recall an occasion when Mr Data availed himself to comment on Captain Picard's leisure efforts. I consider what a Vulcan would require from such a venue* I can only assume it is as you say, to observe the other ship inhabitants in a non work situation. I have used such occasions myself to learn about the crew and find that in a casual setting they are willing to commit indiscretions that they do not wish to be reminded of. It has been brought to my attention that offering to do so gets them to be more willing work harder and do things that they would normally be most reluctant to do. An example being a young female Ensign on the previous ship that I served that was always saying that she didn't have the physical energy or flexibility to do the work required of her. I questioned her on how this could be so when she spent the weekend with a young Lieutenant and they were both 'experimenting' the entire weekend.
She seemed quite surprised that I knew this and I merely pointed out that Vulcans don't sleep like humans and can do without sleep for some days while still operating in a normal efficient manner. For some reason the fact that someone had been able to hear her yells of,"Oh That's so great I'm yelling your name out loud" *Spoken in an unemotional voice* and was able to recall other things said made her decide to actually,I believe the human term is, Pull her weight on the ship.
*Looks puzzled for a moment* I have never understood why a human would wish to pull a weight around behind them.

"At Rommie's request to keep watch over beka while she's away, with a nod I disappear from command and reappears on the maru. A quick look around and sees she has already the ship. So trance makes her way into the city looking for her and trying to keep a low profile, but all so finding it difficult to navigate. But taking her knowing beka hasn't leaving anytime soon."

After talking with Helena Cain in the command center of her starbase, I think about Beka & Trance as I walk back to my own bridge.

I know that both of them are safe but while the rest of the crew are enjoying them selves I decide to take a slip fighter to go meet them.

Exiting slipstream in orbit of the planet we left the Maru, I begin to scan for them.

"Wow, Trance is harder to locate with sensors than anyone."

The Maru shows on sensors, so I set a course and dock in the Maru's cargo pod moments later.

I climb down from the pod into the Maru but no sign of Beka or Trance, but sensors indicate Trance has recently been here.

I open a com "Trance, Beka, this is Rommy, I'm in the Maru, where are you guys?... I just thought I'd come and see if you we're ok"

While I wait for a reply I do a quick check of the Maru's systems to see if anyone else has been aboard.

No the records show except Trance and Beka the Maru is secure.

I comment to my self "thats good, the last thing we need is one of those bad guys steeling the Maru, then I'd have to deal with one very angry Beka"

I look around and take in the view and know why Beka loves this ship so much, it is where she grew up, the Maru is as much a part of Beka, as The Andromeda is to me.

" Not wanting to be bothered or bother anyone else, beka left her hand com behind on the maru, after hours of walking around the city pretty much lost I finely find the mess hall and few people from the other ship's crew. Beka grabs herself a tray and finds table in the back to it's self. Sitting down enjoying my lunch and breeze from the ocean, I forget about the battle and Tyr's disappearing act and pay more attention to what I just ate!."

Eww, gross
