I take the co-pilot's seat in front of the shuttle and Janeway sits in the pilot's chair. She goes through a quick pre-flight check of the ship's systems and then gently takes us up. The Jumper is still on the ground as to give us time to clear the area first. Although I've gone through some preliminary training on operating a Starfleet shuttle, I'm much more familiar with the Jumpers. I've even logged enough training time on them to take one out on my own if the need arises. I carefully study the procedures and operations that she is going through.

“It's good to see that the party has not worn you out so much to not take advantage of more training on operating the shuttle's systems”, she says to me as she steers the ship away from the coast and begins our flight over the ocean. “I must admit that on my way over here, I was worried that you would perhaps not be in any condition to have a meaningful conversation with me. I did notice that you can put away a lot of drink for one evening.”

“Yeah, I must admit that I have not drank so much in one night in quite some time.” There is an uncomfortable pause as I wait for her to comment further. It then dawns on me that she is waiting for me to say more. “I'm actually fine now. The walk that we had after the party has helped to refresh me some.”

“Could you do me a favor and go into the utility drawer between the seats”, still keeping her attention focused on piloting she asks me. “I know that you've been fully trained on our standard tricorders, but have you had a chance to use a medical tricorder yet?”

“No I haven't”, I tell her as I find one and take it out of the drawer. It didn't take long for this shuttle ride to turn into much more of an adventure than I would have preferred.

“Well here is your chance for you to check one out now. Most of the menus are the same. Give yourself a moment to familiarize yourself with it and then do a general medical scan of yourself. Examine the results and you will have an idea of how thorough it is.”

We both know that this has nothing to do with me learning to use a medical tricorder. Still, what can I do but play along with her game? Just to waste as much flight time as I can, I spend more than a few moments to thoroughly run the tricorder through its paces before scanning myself. From the sounds that it emits, she knows when the scan is complete.

“Pretty amazing piece of equipment isn't it?”

“All of your 24th century technology is. It is good to see how far humanity would have progressed on its own in the next 300 years. But of course all of that has changed now. All of these universes, alternate realities, and time-lines have been mixed together. What kind of future is Earth going to have because of all of this? My physics work of course dealt with variables in time at the sub-atomic level, but I am still having a hard time trying to understand where all of this will take all of us now.”

“It is difficult for all of us do Captain.”

Hoping that the issue of my medical condition is behind us now, I start to close the tricorder.

“Before you put it away”, she jumps in, “I'm curious to see how your body is recovering from all the drinking that you did. In my time, and certainly within the ranks of the kind of Starfleet officers that I'm accustomed to, no one would put themselves through that kind of abuse.”

“I wouldn't call it abuse. It was just a night of excessive drinking. As I'm sure you know, there are even members in the Atlantis crew that smoke cigarettes. We are not from your time Admiral.”

“Could you please read off the scan results to me.”

Although she has still been able to keep her tone and demeanor even and pleasant, I just got the sense that I got under her skin a little. Not wanting to make this turn uglier than it is already starting to get, I read off my scan results. The only two factors that are off the mark are blood pressure and sugar being high.

“What about your blood/alcohol content”, she asks me innocently.

Great, somehow I don't think my ability to handle my liquor will be anything to impress her with.

“0.293”, I tell her.

“Unacceptable”, she replies curtly.

That's it! It was stated as a fact, not open to discussion. As the C'n'C High Admiral, she certainly has the right to be judge and jury and make this declaration, but the way she said it still pissed me off. Perhaps if I still wasn't so drunk, or tired, I would have just given her a 'yes Ma'am', but I was not in the mood to leave it alone.

“With all due respect Admiral, I know that you are the ultimate authority in respect to Universal Starfleet, but shouldn't you defer this to Dr Weir to make the call on? She is my direct commanding officer and is also from my time-line on Earth. I would think that she is in a much better position to make the judgment call on this.”

Instead of answering me, she puts the Shuttle on autopilot and turns in her chair to the larger utility locker off to her left. Since her back is to me now, I can't she what she is doing. I hear her take out a large case and open it on her lap. She searches through it for almost a minute until I see her putting the case on the floor and turning in her chair to face me.

“I want to give you this”, she says while holding up a hypospray. “It will instantly eliminate the alcohol in your system. I do not want to talk to you while you're still drunk. Trust me, I'm doing you a favor.”

“I can assure you that I am in complete control of myself and have no intention of showing you any disrespect.”

“If you don't want to show me any disrespect, then accept this.” We both hold sharp stares at each other. In her face I see steel, unflinching resolve. “Please don't make me turn this into a direct order.”

Despite it all, I can see that she really is trying to help me.

“Of course Admiral”, I relent. I turn in closer to her and she applies the hypospray to my shoulder. After a faint hiss, I feel the effects almost instantly. With the alcohol suddenly gone, I feel like hell. Worst of it is a severe headache and a queasy stomach. She is also ready for this with a second hypospray.

“This should take care of your uncomfortable reactions.”

I lean in again and she applies the second hypospray. Just like the first, the effects are felt almost instantly. I still feel tired, but much better.

“Sorry that I had to do this in two parts”, she says, “but I was not sure how your body was going to react to the detox.”

“I'm sorry also Admiral, for having you have to see me like this.”

After checking that the autopilot is still keeping the Shuttle on course and that our arrival time is just a few minutes away, she again turns to face me.

“Starfleet is composed of many different races, coming from the hundreds of different member worlds that encompass the Federation. Each race has its own social standards, cultures, morals, laws, and beliefs. All of them have their own unique differences. With the mash-up of the time-line and alternate realities we are existing in now, Starfleet has expanded even more in diversity. With Atlantis and your 21st century origin, I have to treat you and your Atlantis team like I would any other alien culture. We may both be human, but the reality you come from is very different than mine.” She gives me a small laugh before continuing. “You might be interested to know that you and some others in your crew drink like Klingons.”

Having never meet a Klingon yet, I don't know if I should take this as a compliment or not.

During the shuttle flight with Captain Smeerworld I tell him about Synthahol, and explain its a good way to be able to relax and drink but without getting too drunk. He told me that it was Ronan who showed him how to over ride the replicators and that it would be fine off duty.

I smiled and with a laugh replied "in moderation as you never know when you might be called to immediate duty, during a crisis for example"

I told him that I enjoyed the party immensely and have been known to let my hair down from time to time, but always ready for duty in any case, as shown by meeting him so early with a fresh pot of coffee.

I think by now, though tense, he realizes Im simply looking out for him as with all my officers and gently leaning him in the direction officers, especially high ranking ones should perform.

On the subject of diversity I tell him a story of when Dylan Hunt was in command of The Andromeda prior to this universe, how he appeared to expect a civilian crew of 6 to behave like a veteran crew of thousands and quickly realized once Rev Bem pointed it out to take a more relaxed view, which ultimately worked out as they are now veterans/professionals within our fleet.

I tell him that in my many existences I've been through his timeline as was then and understand and have been quite the party girl too, among other things.

Captain Smeerworld, perhaps in an attempt to lighten the mood asked "so exactly how old are you then" with a curious smile.

I replied with somewhat of a laugh "non of your concern...." and added "... but old enough to have seen many things and beyond"

And while complimenting him on his work and knowledge on Atlantis, and the 'trying to live upto the standard of starfleet officers' and the differences, I explain that as long as people are doing their best, thats all I can expect, and that I prefer officers training on the job in action.

He raises an eye brow so I explain You think you are unprepared but in honesty neither are starfleet officers fresh from training at the academy or fully fledged officers in everyday situations.

We learn all the time and nothing that was taught in the class rooms of the academy ever fully prepared anyone for active duty. And in many respects his own knowledge and scientific talents could be seen as better prepared than some. The point being that everyone has done extraordinarily well given the strange environment they now find them selves in.

I have things that I want to say, but can tell that the Admiral still has plenty to say to me. I see Atlantis in the distance, slowly growing larger in the forward view port. Time is almost at an end for our ride.

“Starfleet is stronger by embracing differences. You are certainly different than the kind of officer I was used to in the pure 24th century”, she continues, “and I do my best to respect and allow as many of these differences to remain within the Fleet. Trust me, there are more than a few things that I would change about behaviors allowed on Atlantis and other new Fleet members given the choice. I am trying to respect your origins though. Even things like your promotion to Captain are recent changes made to accommodate the way everything has changed. Before all of these changes to our reality, the Starfleet I attended would never have made you an officer. Don't take this the wrong way, what I mean is that you have never attended Starfleet academy and still have a lot to learn about 24th century technology. You've taken to the 'on the job training' well. Your knowledge of Ancient technology and other abilities is more than enough for you to function at the capacity as captain.”

Atlantis control sends us a hail over the comm. The Admiral responds to them, to coordinate our landing, and takes the Shuttle back to manual flight.

“There is something that you must understand though”, she continues while piloting the ship, “for the fleet to function as a unified organization, there must be a set of standards that every officer must abide by. These standards are practiced both on and off duty. I'm not telling you that you can't drink and have fun. If the environment permits, you can go outside and have a cigarette if you want. I'm not trying to deny you your cultural upbringings. But, as a Starfleet officer, you must begin to show some restraint in your actions. You can't drink in excess like that anymore. As a Starfleet captain, I can't allow you to speak using such harsh language.”

The Shuttle slowly descends into the Jumper bay and the admiral lands it onto the appropriate pad. Once she has all of the systems shut down and puts the medical case back into the locker, she swings in her chair to face me again.

“Before I approved you promotion, I of course looked over all of the data that Stargate Command had on your history. I know that your early life was filled with a lot of things that might have excluded you from consideration to enter the Stargate program. You were involved in a lot of criminal activities in your 20's. But, just like the SGC, given the time that has past and the current state of your moral character, scientific knowledge, and command abilities, I saw no problem with making you a Starfleet Captain.”

The admiral pauses and looks me over for a long moment. It seems like her stare was boring right through me. Outside we can now here the sounds of crewmen approaching the Shuttle and beginning a post-flight check and lock-down of the ship.

“I have a strong belief that you will become a very important player in whatever may confront us. Something big is coming. I can feel it. I can't figure what it is yet, but it seems like many of our current troubles, spanning all of the galaxies that we are involved in, are connected in some way. I need every officer at the top of their abilities. I need you to keep your focus on accepting and building your knowledge base on as much Ancient and Federation technology as you can. Things like incidents of excessive drinking have to stop now.”

“This is the control room to Shuttle craft 'Edison' ”,the controller's voice comes in over the comm. “If you are ready to exit the Shuttle now Admiral, there is something outside on the hull that we would like you to look at.”

Both the Admiral and I exchange surprised looks. As we stand up to exit, she taps her combadge to inform Control that we are coming out. We exit the Shuttle and go over stop by two crewmen running a scanner over the rear of the left engine nacell.

“We put the Jumper into a holding pattern over the city until you could have a look at this Admiral”, the bay crew chief tells her. She takes the tricorder and runs it over the hull. “I had just began the post-flight check when this small energy reading came up. The tricorder flagged it because there is no good reason why it should be there. Plus, it is emitting Varlig waves.”

Janeway snapped her head in surprise at that.

“What are Varlig waves”, I ask the admiral.

“They are an emission that result from contact with specific energy projections”, she tells me as she remains focused on the tricorder. “What is so strange about this is that there is only one region in the universe where I have seen this energy type used by a series of clustered alien technologies. And that is in the Delta Quadrant in our Milky Way Galaxy.”

As we're going over the scans Dr Weir joins us.
"Whats wrong Kathryn?" she asks as she heads over

I hold out my tricorder and reply "Atlantis run these scans through your database and confirm my suspicions please"

The Dr momentarily closes her eyes as she scans her database and widely opens them to comment

"The energy signature is from a scanning beam consistant of that used by vessels in the Delta Quadrant, Milky Way, several discrepancies in the signature make it hard for a positive ID without conducting furter detailed scans"

her eyes re-open and she then asks

"but how did they get here this shuttle is new and has never been involved with the Delta Quadrant, Kat is there right now and yes we've been to that region but that was before the shuttles were loaded to Atlantis"

I shake my head, close the tricorder and hold my hand against my head and one hand on my hip.

I lean out toward the shuttle and turn round and sit on one of the nacells.
"Thats what I'd like to know"

Captain Smeerworld also wonders how energy signatures belonging to the Milky Way, Delta Quadrant could have gotten here.

"Seems we have a mystery on our hands" Elizabeth comments

"I knew something strange was going on and I think we've barely scratched what might happen next...." I shake my head again and then turn to Captain Smeerworld "... see what I mean, you never know when you might be called to duty" and I laugh a little.

"Dr, put the city on yellow alert, advise all teams on the planet of the situation, no need to stop normal functions for now though and run scans of the city and the planet..... Captain I want you to give me a hand going through the shuttle sensors and find out where and when that scanning beam came from" I order

Atlantis of course was already on the job as the sirens briefly sounded citywide and her AI appears in all locations of crew members to give the relative information. She knows her job and this is her ship, infact it is her. But my snap reflex reactions jumped to work and took charge.

But she knows this and takes no offense, plus she may be Atlantis and in command of her self, but I am her commanding officer too. She smiles and as she exits she comments "already underway, I'll be in the control room, let me know what you find, I'll do the same"

I give a brief nod of the head and smile and as I stand up from the shuttle nacell and look toward Captain Smeerworld, who looks slightly in a panic but maintaining his calm I say "Well Captain lets get to those shuttle readings"

As we go over the shuttle sensors I explain to him who the Hirogen are, a relentless hunter species who live only for the hunt and the prey, whom I've had many dealings with and despite some pleasant encounters with a select few, their basic instinct is that of a hunter and not much more. I explain that they will go to any length to capture their target and that they usually hunt in packs, much like wild animals, who roam free but come together for the prize of a hunt.

Captain Smeerworld asks why Im telling him about the Hirogen

"Its a gut feeling I have and I hope Im wrong" its a possibility that Im thinking about the Hirogen because my daughter Kat, Andromeda and my counter part Kathryn Janeway are currently in battle with them as we speak and its playing on my mind.

It is amazing how dangerous and alien life can be out in the universe. Of course I have spent my life reading about things like it in science fiction novels, but to realize that this stuff is real terrifies me. I understand more how the Admiral has acquired her steel resolve. You would need to develop it to get through all that she has.

We run through some real-time analysis of the sensor readings, but quickly determine that to pinpoint anything down it will take the computer time to run through everything in muti-scan detail. All we wind up doing is pulling all of the 'black box' data and downloading it into our tricorders to bring Dr McKay, Zelenka, and their teams.

The Jumper carrying Sheppard and Ronon is called in to land as the Admiral and I are finishing up with the Shuttle. At this point there is nothing to contaminate on the Shuttle to worry about further. I hand our tricorders over to send to the labs and request some new ones to begin work on the Jumper when it lands.

“You won't be needing these”, the Admiral tells me as she takes them out of my hands.

“You don't think it best that I continue the investigation with you”, I ask her, “My duty shift is set to start soon anyway.”

“Your off to start your hunting trip Mister.” she tells me in a firm voice, but I can see the light humor in her eyes. It amazes me that I have gotten to know her so well over the last two hours. It has certainly been a roller coaster ride!

“I figured that with all that has happened that there is certainly no time for me to catch my R'n'R”

As we talk, the noise in the bay grows slightly louder as the Jumper sets down on a pad on the far side.
Despite the seriousness that the Admiral displayed while telling me about the Hirogen and her encounters with them, her demeanor has moved to a lighter, less worried feel.

“You and Ronon have had this trip planned for a while now. I don't see any immediate threat to the City at this time. Security has been stepped up and all we probably have is a lot of data analysis ahead of us for the next day or so. I believe Captain that we can handle things without you two. Forget about starting the duty shift that you are not even scheduled for today anyway.”

“You certainly are keeping me on my toes. I never know what is going to come next with you.”

“I'm giving you more of a sense of what comes with command – never truly knowing what's next, but remaining prepared for whatever it is. Dismissed.”

With that she turns to walk towards Sheppard and Ronon as they leave the Jumper. I give the two men a wave as I head out of the Bay to begin all the preparations I have left before leaving later today. First on my list is a shower and a 3 hour nap.

Captain Smeerworld hangs back near the exit of the bay as if to wait for Ronan & John but I turn and give him a smile along with a hand gesture reminding him that he has been dismissed.

This wasnt a bad thing but I wanted to talk to Ronan without the Captain over hearing.

I hold out my tricorder and wave it over Ronan & John "Welcome back boys...." closing the tricorder I continue "... seems fine, John have these tricorders sent to Rodney & Zelenka and have a science team go over the shuttle and jumper in fine detail, Elizabeth is working on the city and planet scans"

John nods and exits quickly he doesnt want to get tangled in the hunting trip and sees I want to talk to Ronan about it as he exits he comments "right away Ma'am, see you later Ronan, have fun" with a smirk at Ronan.

"so whats up" asks Ronan in his usual charming way, leaning back on the jumper and folding his arms.

"This little hunting trip you have planned with Captain Smeerworld" I say

"Yeah what about it, I thought it would be cancelled we were listening to communications about the energy signatures and figured it be out of the question by now" he replies saddened.

"Quite the contrary Ronan..." I say as I see his eye light up "...its been planned for some time now and I dont see any immediate need to go to red alert, each post knows their jobs. But I'd like you to be a little harsh with the Captain and add a little training into the trip, you know team building, being prepared for anything, knowing how to rely on one another, that kind of thing... rough it up a little more than it would be" I say with a wink as Ronan now smiles as he loves rough adventure

"I know exactly what to do, I got it sorted you can count on me" he laughingly replies as I can see in his eyes plans starting to formulate

I add "but dont go too hard on him, we want to bring him into the team not drive him out"

The science team now arrives in the jumper bay

"Walk you to the control room?" Ronan asks and holds out an arm for me to link.

"It would be my pleasure thankyou"

We walk into the control room and are laughing between us all the plans Ronan has for Smeerworld and glance as the Captain is currently talking to Zelenka and dismissing him self from duty on my orders.

Zelenka already knows a little about it during a meeting with senior staff and training scenarios for everyone not just Smeerworld and figures this is part of it so acknowledges Smeerworld and tells him to have fun and that he wishes he was going along but has lots of work to do "maybe next time huh"

Smeerworld looks over with a little intregue what myself and Ronan are laughing about. But as we part ways I walk upto Elizabeth's office and Ronan heads for the supply room to get ready for the trip he thinks no more of it and joins Ronan as he's been waved over by him.

I probably should have been more suspicious from the beginning, right when we got our supplies for the trip. About a third of the things that we had planned to bring along, Ronon had decided last minute would not be needed. OK, if he wants to go out there with less comfort, I guess I'll man-up and do it his way. What really annoyed me though was the fact that our departure time arrived a few hours earlier than we had agreed upon.

I took my shower and had less than two hours of sleep when he was at my door. He had some excuse about being too excited to sleep so decided, for the both of us, that we should leave earlier. He had told me that it would be more fun to sleep under the stars anyway. What didn't cross my mind though was the fact that the sun here didn't set till 10:30 pm. So that meant that we had a good 9 hours of 'fun time' hiking and mounting climbing before we set up camp.

The only golden moment that I did have this miserable day arrived just after sunset. We came across a small herd of the deer-like animals, that we were looking to hunt, and I made a kill at 40 meters with my first shot. Suddenly all of the pain and suffering was worth it. I really think that he thought that he broke me. I believe that darker forces were plotting against me in terms of some sinister betting pool. Many people did not put their money down on me being the winner in the number of kills acquired during the trip.

Once I got the fire going, I was knocked out. I woke with Ronon getting out plates ready with the cooked meat and side dishes. I couldn't believe it. Between giving the meat all of the medical scans needed to OK it and then all of the prep work, I was sure that we were going to eat ration packs that night.

“You surprised me”, he said at last when handing me my dish. "I was sure that I has finished you off after this long day.”

“Well I bet money on me winning the hunting wagers, so if the trend continues, I'll be netting a lot of money.”

“I could care less about the money”, he says in a voice that rang true.

“What then, that you are simply surprised that I could still shoot after the day of hell you gave me.”

“No. I'm surprised that I'm going to see the smirk wiped off of the Admiral's face when she finds out that I didn't get you down on your knees whimpering for me to take it easy on you. The best part will be when I get to tell her about that shot you took after all of it. You took him down in one clean shot.”

“You've got to be kidding me”, I shout.

As exhausted as we are, the laughter comes easy. It must of lasted for five minutes. I'm sure that all of the night creatures within ear-shot of our camp did not know what to make of all the noise.

We are at the end of our second day of the hunting trip. I've got two kills and Ronon has one. A few hours ago we checked in with Atlantis and everything is quiet. Many of the cities inhabitants have been able to also get on with their own R'n'R activities.

A final conclusion of the sensor analysis is due in the morning. Hopefully it can be determined exactly which alien tech was used to scan the Shuttle.

The planet's sun had set a ten minutes ago and the forest seemed quite as the wildlife prepared for the coming night. Just like as I remember hunting deer on Earth, this is also a time when these deer-like animals, we have been stalking, are out and about in earnest. Across the meadow before us, a small herd of these creatures are milling about near the far tree-line. Although they don't have antlers like deer, it is easy to pick out the males from among them.

It being Ronon's turn to take a shot, he readies his bow and takes aim at the largest of them. It is a distance of about 75 meters so he takes his time to get his aim steady and true. As much as we are friends, this hunting trip has turned into a fierce competition. I had managed to kill another one of them this morning and I know that he wants to even up the match badly.

Finally he fires the shot and the arrow heads right on target towards the animal. Somehow he misses. The animals are not even spooked, still grazing on the grass by their feet and interacting amongst themselves. We both look at each other with amazed expressions. What just happened is impossible! Even though Ronon apparently missed, the arrow must have flown right between them and plowed into the tree branches and shrubs behind them to give them a terrible fright.

“Do you want to tell me what just happened”, Ronon whispers to me.

“I don't have a clue.” We both look back towards the herd trying to see any plausible explanation for what could have just happened. After watching for another minute, we remain clueless as ever.

“Your turn”, Ronon says as he quietly reaches back to hand me my bow that I had behind us. The light is fading fast so I don't spend as much time as I normally would before taking the shot. The last thing on our minds right now is the hunting competition. As the arrow flies outward, we both keep our focus on its flight and not its target. A third of the way into the meadow it briefly disappears before reappearing, tumbling back towards us and landing in the grass.

“Wait here”, Ronon commands me before he leaps into action. Forgetting about chasing away the animals, he hurries into the open field to race towards where the arrow has fallen. He has his long blade out. I curse myself for not bringing my tricorder with me. Is it what I think it is?

As he gets near the arrow, he slows, but continues forward. After about five more meters he disappears into what is obviously a cloaking field.

The arrows were hitting a cloaked ship

This is enough information for me. I quickly reach back for my shoulder bag to grab my hand phaser that I brought in it. As I fumble to get the bag open, a boot from nowhere slams into the side of my head nearly knocking me out as I tumble across the ground. I don't have a chance to react before a second blow hits me hard in the mid section, knocking the wind out of me. As long arms reach out to grab me, I catch a glimpse of the aliens that Admiral Janeway had described to me in the Jumper bay.

The Hirogen!

Universal Starfleet CnC Log, Stardate 201211.03 Last night I assisted Atlantis in her scans of the city and planet while Dr's McKay, Zelenka & their teams conducted details analysis of the shuttle and puddle jumper.

During our city sweep a few systems appeard to be behaving rather strangely, certain sections of the city shut down power, which is normal when no one is in those sections, except these were occupied.
It didnt last long and power was restored and all seemed to be fine. But it was still somthing we would investigate in further detail.

Certain areas of the planet were also difficult to scan, but all on the surface looked normal, we could even see the area where Ronan & Captain Smeerworld were hunting, teaming with wildlife.
I promised Ronan I would wait for the final score and his report on the extra training I had him set for the Captain, so we moved on from that area of the scans once we were satisfied it was safe.

Something in my gut is telling me this is all to true to believe, something is about to happen I know it, I think Atlantis knows it too.

This morning we're meeting in the control room to get the report of the shuttle and jumper scans and to again go over in detail anything we may have missed on the city and planet to be sure.

End Log.

I exit my quarters and head to the control room, McKay & Zelenka had also just arrived but Atlantis was there waiting with fresh coffee for everyone.

"Ah just what the doctor ordered! thanx Elizabeth" I say as I help my self to a mug.

Once everyone was settled Elizabeth asks "So guys out with it what have you found"

Zelenka gulps and looks to Rodney as he nervously drinks his coffee. "I'll let Rodney explain"

My own expression along with Elizabeth go slightly white as we both say "this doesnt sound good" and glance at each other briefly having said the same thing at the same time.

"After we had finished our scans of the ships, we discovered that not only was it a scanning beam, but it was being run through a weapons array and after checking with the database for Delta Quadrant species who do this we discovered in one simple word....."

Elizabeth and I interupt and both say "Hirogen!" and I continue with "I knew it, I knew they were involved somewhere I could feel it"

Elizabeth adds "the question is to what extent"

Suddenly Elizabeth / Atlantis birefly collapses as the city goes into red alert and all the sirens sound. I catch her as she falls "Atlantis, easy" as I help her to a seat "whats going on?"

"Rodney!" she shouts as he dashes to a console to check. She looks like she is having a major headache, but I know its something wrong in her systems.

Rodney looks up in terror and as Zelenka checks he too has gone white as a sheet, Rodney yells "and that would be them!, they're here in Atlantis"

"The Hirogen?" I ask "Yes and thats not all..." he replies "... I've just looked at the scans you were worried about last night, its a clever cloaking holo image, they're all over the planet"

The lights in the control room and several systems are going on and off, Zelenka reads out from his console "slipstream is off line, life support in the east section of the city is also off line, communications and external sensors also offline"

Elizabeth / Atlantis jumps to her feet, still clutching her head a little "We've got to get those systems back online, efforting, but I could use the help, Im virtually blind"

She seems to recover in person but I know she is having a tough time of it.

I order several teams to different areas along with armed security teams.

"The away teams, Ronan, Smeerworld. I cant contact any of them" she shouts.

Just then John and Teyla run into the control room, the Atlantis AI managed to get a brief message to everyone as she sounded red alert so they know the situation.

"John take a jumper, Teyla take a shuttle, go get our people back then report back, do not engage the enemy if you can help it, we'll deal with them later, just get out people back first"
I order as Atlantis is still looking dizzy.

"We're on it...." they both shout as they run up toward the jumper bay Teyla stops briefly to as "... is Elizabeth ging to be ok"

"She'll be fine I'll take care of things here with her, go!" I nod as Teyla then leaves.

Most of the consoles now in the control room are more steady and Elizabeth stands saying "repairs underway and I seem to have gained control of most my systems...." looking down at her self and laughing she adds "... and my self"

Suddenly I get a strange feeling and mutter "Smeerworld no" Rodney looks up "What, whats he got to do with anything?"

"I sent him out with Ronan and said it would be fine, I've just got the feeling both of them have been captured" I reply to Rodney

Rodney goes a little more white than he was already "Oh no, all the things I said to him, I hope he knows I didnt mean any of it, I mean he is still part of the team, the family, you know"

"Rodney calm down I'm sure he knows, however Im directly responsible in this case, take care of things here Im going after them, take good care of Atlantis" saying that I mean both the person and the city.

He nods just as I snap my fingers and vanish from Atlantis.

As I arrive at the location I felt the capture, its too late, no one is here and there is a calm that is too calm.

I tap my badge and contact the jumper and shuttle "Dont forget to inform the planet inhabitants, if there's any left" I also tell them that Ronan & Captain Smeerworld have been captured.

John still finds my abilities strange but doesnt question them, Teyla is more adapt to them and responds "Understood, we'll try to locate them and bring them back"

"I'll lend you a hand" as I appear on the shuttle with Teyla "lets go get our people!"

John heads off in one direction as we take the opposite to go look for our teams and in this instance especially Ronan & Smeerworld.

I've just barely recovered my self from the last set of systems malfunctions as several power relays in the control room blow.
Still being linked with my ship self it sends me to the floor but Rodney just barely catches me before I land.

Just as Andromeda, I can seperate my self from my ship self to gain better control of my body while my ship self may be damaged, though it takes some effort. And is what I had done during the whole Altantis expedition in the old days while I was on low pwer and no one knew I was infact Atlantis.

Rodney is in a panic shouting "Elizabeth....Atlantis.....Dr Weir, answer me!"

In broken words as Im still connected to my ship self I reply "Sabotage...main....power, core, core.....systems, flight...." I regain my composure and bolt up right

"They're in the main power core trying to rig the engines to over load, I've managed to stop them for now, they're held behind a forcefield, but several systems are still fluctuating, I dont know how long I can hold them, have security get there on the double and Rodney take a team and secure the core"

"Zelenka get down there!" Rodney shouts. Zelenka looks and after taking a step or two to get there he tursn round and says "why me Elizabeth ordered you to go?"

"Yes but a you can see I have my hands full here and have to tak care of Elizabeth now go!...." he yells back then mumbles "...plus Hirogen are down there"

"I'm fine and repairs might go better if you both go" I wave over another security team to go with them and with that they both head for one of the main turbo lifts.

"It's not responding looks like we cant get there" Rodney says after barely trying.

I look toward the turbo lift and personally make one arrive and simply smile at him as he gives a sarcastic smile back

"Come on lets go Rodney" yells Zelenka as he goes right to the back of the lift so security can cover the entrance when they arrive at the core.

I feel that I have atleast partial extarnal sensors and communications back online but with heavy interference. I locate the Jumper & shuttle, opening a channel I ask them to report their progress and inform them that its gotten worse on Atlantis.

A message comes in from Kat in the Milky Way with discoveries they made.

I send a message back to let her and the fleet know our current situation here, I tell Kat that her mother is currently out helping the search for our away teams and checking on the colonists too.

I send a message to all senior fleet officers to inform them of our discoveries in the Pegasus Galaxy and that we are going to investigate further into why there appears to be older starfleet technology here.

How much pain, how much physical suffering can a human body take?

When the Hirogen had first brought me inside their ship and held me down, there was not a universal translator working. The only message that they sent me that I could understand was pain. Why not just kill me? I quickly wished that they would. Besides being brutally beaten, a number of knives were stuck into me. Ether I had 'luck' going for me, or they knew the human body well enough to avoid damaging me in any area that would be fatal. When my head was allowed to sag down, I could see that I was covered in my blood. I could even feel it running down inside my pants legs and onto my boots.

Apparently I was moved into some sort of preparation area for away missions that was near the main hatchway that I was dragged on board through. The ship did not appear alien, actually it looked like a Starfleet vessel – an Earth ship. I could see English writing on door labels and control panels.

I have no way of knowing where Ronon is, though I think that he has not been captured yet. In the distance, between my screams, I can hear all kinds of activity. Groups of Hirogen are running past the door in different directions and I'm sure that there were the sounds of weapons fire.

After a few minutes, that seemed like an eternity, a tricorder was set up to be used as a translator. I did not have a combadge, because I assume they wanted there to be no way to have any signals tacked by Atlantis. They began to throw a bunch of questions at me. Most were about Atlantis and the reason that it showed up on this planet. Even if I wanted to answer them, I was too injured to think clearly. As hurt as I was though, my intention was still firm to give them nothing. I will not make the same mistake I made many years ago when it was my father and brother torturing me for information. I was a young man in my 20's then. I am am much better man now, and the stakes are surely much more important.

The room violently lurches to the side. We must be in flight and the inertial dampers have been damaged. A steady shaking grows as the lights flicker off more than on. I feel the sensation of falling. The Hirogen with me are trying to contact others in the ship to find out what has happened.

In my mind I silently scream out to the universe beyond the walls and ceiling. I don't believe in God, but pray that somewhere there is somebody to answer my pleas for help.

Everything has become a haze. My vision dimmed and my existence within this hell ended as it seemed like the ship was plowing into the ground.

Onboard the shuttle with Teyla, I hear Captain Smeerworld scream, and have brief images of Hirogen nearby, and a feeling of crashing or being on an unstable ship. Also disturbing is it seems to be on a pre version starfleet ship.

I figure out a location but rather than go straight in I try to tell the Captain to hold on and that help is comming, I just hope he heard me and hasnt dismissed it as his imagination.

I tell Teyla immediately and relay it to John in the Jumper.

John heads back for Atlantis to get more ships in the air to help locate the planet inhabitants and any Atlantis away teams, while Teyla and I set course for the location of the Hirogen ship vivid in my mind.

"Hang on Captain just a little longer" I say

Teyla asks if I can sense Ronan I probably could if I tried but my concern is Smeerworld, ofcourse my concern is the safety of both of them but I imagine Ronan is giving the Hirogen a hard time and keeping his own.

Dr Keller is now in the control room trying to assist me, but my condition isnt medical.

John managed to contact us and explain what High Admiral Janeway has just told him, he is on his way back for extra jumpers to go searching the planet.

I turn to Jennifer who also hears this "Dr get the med deck ready looks like we're going to have injured and critical people incomming"

Rodney & Zelenka have reached the core and are effecting repairs, so far so good, but sensors now show Hirogen onboard in several locations.

My engines are still offline, and half the city still has no life support.

I'm still struggling to understand how they got onboard without me knowing, I can even scan through cloaking devices, yet they still managed to do plenty of damage before being discovered, something definitely isnt right.
